The Positive Side of Covid-19: Reconnecting With Nature and Farming

The Covid-19 pandemic changed life for everyone across the world. While it brought uncertainty and challenges, it also gave many people an opportunity to slow down, reconnect with their roots, and spend more time close to nature.

For many working professionals living in cities, village life had slowly become distant over the years. Daily routines, office schedules, and fast-paced urban lifestyles left very little time to observe nature or understand the importance of sustainable living.

During the lockdown period in 2020, many people temporarily moved back to their villages. This unexpected shift created a new appreciation for farming, greenery, and traditional ways of life.

At Arsoli Natural Farm, this period became the beginning of a meaningful transformation.

Rediscovering the Importance of Trees

During the summer of 2020, one thing became very clear — the farm had very few trees. The open land felt extremely hot during peak summer, with limited shade and very little greenery.

This created an important realization that trees are not just decorative elements around farms. They are essential for maintaining a healthy farming ecosystem.

Trees help in:

  • Reducing heat around the farm
  • Improving soil moisture retention
  • Supporting biodiversity
  • Creating natural shade
  • Improving overall farm atmosphere
  • Making farms more sustainable for the future

This understanding slowly inspired a tree plantation journey.

Beginning the Plantation Journey

When the monsoon season arrived, different types of trees were brought to the farm for plantation.

The early stages required continuous care and attention. Daily routines included watering plants during early mornings and late evenings, monitoring their growth, and protecting them during changing weather conditions.

Small efforts made consistently every day slowly started transforming the farm environment.

Over time:

  • Greenery increased across the farm
  • Birds and natural activity became more visible
  • The atmosphere started feeling cooler and fresher
  • The farm became more lively and naturally balanced

The transformation was gradual, but clearly visible.

Challenges Beyond Farming

The biggest challenges were not always related to nature or weather. Sometimes, they came from traditional mindsets.

In many farming communities, open land is often preferred for maximum crop cultivation. Trees are sometimes viewed as obstacles because they occupy farming space.

Many people questioned why more trees were being planted instead of increasing cultivation area.

However, the focus remained on creating a healthier and more sustainable farming environment rather than only increasing short-term production.

Over time, the positive impact of plantation became impossible to ignore.

The Farm Today

Today, the farm feels completely different compared to 2020.

No matter the season, the environment feels greener, fresher, and more refreshing. Even during harsh summers, the impact of heat feels lower because of the growing tree cover and improved natural balance.

Many of the trees planted during the Covid period have now started growing strongly and producing fruits.

These changes strengthened the belief that farming is not only about crop production, but also about protecting nature and building long-term sustainability.

A Stronger Connection With Natural Farming

The Covid period also created a deeper understanding of traditional natural farming practices.

Modern farming methods may provide faster production and higher short-term profits, but natural farming focuses on:

  • Soil health
  • Biodiversity
  • Environmental balance
  • Sustainable agriculture
  • Chemical-free food production

Even though natural farming can sometimes be economically challenging, it remains an important path toward healthier living and environmental responsibility.

A Positive Change From Difficult Times

The Covid-19 pandemic was one of the most difficult periods in recent history. Yet for many people, it also became a turning point that encouraged a stronger connection with nature and sustainable living.

At Arsoli Natural Farm, this journey continues with the same belief — protecting nature, increasing greenery, and following responsible natural farming practices for future generations.
